Overview

This module covers basic information and techniques in production of images for the web. Users may use the website as a resource for information, or as a tutorial, by working sequentially through the material. At the end of the tutorial module, participants will be able to:

Identify issues for visual content in educational websites

Identify and define basic image production issues:

  • Resolution issues
  • Compression and file formats
  • Web colour issues

Understand how to acquire images by:

  • Using a flatbed scanner
  • Using a film scanner
  • Using a digital camera
  • Downloading images from websites
  • Having knowledge of copyright issues

Manipulate images by:

  • Resizing and cropping
  • Adjusting brightness & contrast
  • Adjusting colour balance and sharpness
  • Selective enhancing and retouching
  • Adding text

Identify and define basic image creation issues:

  • Using colour
  • Basic design principles

Create simple graphics in Photoshop

  • EXAMPLES illustrate topics.
  • ACTIVITIES enable participants to actively consider issues and practise processes.
