This final session aims to scope the various choices facing the program maker as they decide how to deliver their project to their audience.

From the desktop -

  • Print your project to tape using camcorder and firewire to create a master tape. This master tape can be used to make multiple copies for your audience.
  • Create digital files using compression
  • Deliver digital files by CD-ROM, DVD or the internet

CD-ROM - approx. 45mins of media at up to 1/2 screen size

DVD - an hour of randomly accessible full screen media. This will be a compelling choice in the near future.

Progressive download files for the web - user must wait for file to fully download before it will play. This can translate to a sizeable wait if material is delivered via a 56k modem.

Streaming media files - delivered off a dedicated streaming server, files play as soon as the first trickle of media has reached the user’s computer. This is a good viable alternative for delivering material over fast networks but far from satisfactory via slow connections (56k or less). As the file does not actually arrive on the desktop, this mode of delivery has inbuilt copyright protection.
