ACTIVITY: Selective image retouching

ACTIVITY: Image retouching - selective enhancing

You will need Photoshop or other image editing program.

Use a scanned image of your own, or download one from this web page.

1. Open the image in Photoshop.

• Try out the selection tools, using the shift and alt (option) keys to edit your selection.

• When you have created a selection, make adjustments such as levels, colour balance and unsharp mask - these will be applied only in the 'selected' areas.

• When you have finished making adjustments, deselect by clicking outside of the selected area, or by going to Select>deselect.

• Select the clone stamp tool (left of toolbox, above eraser), then select a paintbrush option in the option bar at top of screen (usually a smallish airbrush is best). Hold down the alt (option) key while you click on the image to select the clone source.

Then begin painting - it takes a little practice, but is a powerful tool.
