Summary, Self-test & Explore
Images you find when browsing on the internet may be downloaded to your computer, either by directly saving the image, or by making a 'screen capture'.

To download images from websites

Windows

  • Position cursor on image, hold down the right mouse button and select 'save picture as' or 'save image as'.

Mac

  • Position cursor on image, hold down mouse for a couple of seconds, and select 'download image to disk' or 'save this image as'.

This will work with JPG or GIF images, including animated GIFs, but not Flash animations.

Sometimes script has been written to try to prevent you from doing this in this case it is usually simple to capture the screen image (or active window image) from your computer and save to disk. (This will not download an animation, for obvious reasons!).

To capture a screen image

Windows

  • The 'Print screen' key will capture an image of the entire screen to your clipboard. AltShift+Print screen will capture an image of the active window to your clipboard.

Mac

  • Cmd-Shift-3 sends a picture of your screen to your System disk.
  • Cmd-Shift-4 sends a picture of a selected area of your screen to your System disk.
  • Cmd-Shift-4+caps lock sends a picture of a selected window to your System disk.
  • Control+any of the above combinations will save to the clipboard.
