Accessibility issues - technological
Challenge:
- Need for prerequisite technology skills, such as familiarity with
computer operating system(s) and software (eg browsers, word-processors)
- Provision of adequate technical support for hardware/software
- Maintaining consistency of software operation in the web environment
(eg cross-platform/cross-browser/multimedia performance issues)
Solutions:
- Develop tutorial material for skills required, or link to existing
online material
- Design course structure to provide support for range of proficiency
(eg provide prerequisite tutorial material in introductory material
or course resources)
- Provide standardised hardware/software where applicable, otherwise
develop clear guidelines for hardware/software requirements
- Ensure that technical issues are fully explored and tested during
courseware development
- Provide FAQ and technical support pages
- Provide phone-in help-line with costs absorbed by provider
- Ensure that technical software problems and inconsistencies are identified
and resolved during courseware development
